School Based Placements

The experience that trainees receive in school will shape their passion for teaching and help their learning to quickly progress.  In order for this to happen, we have put the following together:

Mentors: Each trainee will be given a mentor who is typically the class teacher.  This is a highly skilled practitioner who is keen to develop others and is trained by both the universities and the SCSA.  The mentor will provide weekly guidance to enable development and will contribute to the assessment process.

Professional Tutors: Each school has a Professional Tutor.  This is a senior member of staff who coordinates provision and acts as quality assurance for trainees across the school.   The Professional Tutor will organise a comprehensive induction programme so that trainees are quickly able to gain a good overview and understanding of their placement school.  The Professional Tutor liaises with the University and contributes to the development of ITE across the Alliance.

Professional Studies:  Across our Teaching School we run a Professional Studies programme which complements the work of the universities.  This is led by our professional tutors with many contributions from our teaching colleagues across the Alliance.  This is a real opportunity for trainees to work with leading practitioners and to engage with other trainees from different settings, courses and stages of their ITT.  This is the training that will be run this year.
