Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF)

We have been successful in obtaining funding through SSIF to lead a project on improving outcomes for children in Mathematics in Key Stage 2.  Some of our Systems Leaders (SLEs/NLEs) in partnership with the University of Brighton have led this project across our city for 16 schools.

This project has focussed on the development of Maths Mastery and leadership.  Engagement has been very high and we can see the impact in schools through the development of the leadership of maths, enhanced subject knowledge and  most importantly improved outcomes for children.

It has been a great example of collaborative working for all of us, carefully monitoring and adjusting as we go along.  We have now been successful in commissioning some further funding for our city to enable this project to continue and fully embed in schools.

For further support on maths mastery contact the Sussex Maths Hub.

Schools Partnership Programme

Sussex Coast Teaching School Alliance initiated and led this project through the Education Development Trust.  It is a peer review process involving high quality training with schools working together in small groups.  The training has been for Headteachers but the real impact is with other senior leaders who have received training in facilitation skills enabling them to astutely plan and deliver improvement workshops in other schools.  17 schools have engaged with this project with a second cohort of another 8 schools due to start in the summer term 2019.  All schools have reported on the benefits of working collaboratevely and the learning that has come from that in enabling their own school to move forward.

Systems Leaders

We are delighted to have appointed 6 more Specialist Leaders of Educatin extending our team to 11 practitioners.  We also have appointed 7 Local Leaders of Education.  All systems leaders will come together for further training in May 2019.
